I’m concerned HM Coastguard has informed volunteer Coastguard Rescue Officers that from September they’ll no longer receive hourly remuneration for attending incidents, training exercises and operational duties. This is a serious matter here locally with our long coastline and treacherous estuaries.
The decision is a real kick in the teeth. I’ve signed an Early Day Motion in Parliament about the plan, contacted the relevant UK Government Minister asking him to review this proposal and I’ll be raising it with the Minister directly in Parliament tomorrow.
