I recently visited Shufflebottom LTD, a local family-run firm in Cross Hands that specialises in the design, fabrication, painting and erection of steel structures. They currently employ 80 staff, including a growing number of apprentices and graduates.
I was pleased to hear that as well as their well-established agricultural business, Shufflebottom is winning public sector construction contracts and supplied the large amount of steel frames underpinning the Pentre Awel complex here in Llanelli. They’re also tendering for work on the electric arc furnace in Port Talbot. I want to see local businesses taking up as many of these supply chain opportunities as possible.
It was a great opportunity to discuss ongoing investments, current processes, and future plans, as well as listening to their opinions, and those of the British Constructional Steelwork Association, about what can be done to help further develop and support their sector.
