Home > News > Llanelli Star Column…….on helping local people with advice and support

Working with local residents on individual problems and helping them get the assistance they need is one of the most rewarding parts of being a Member of Parliament.

It might not get the same level of publicity as the latest debates or events in Westminster but it is equally, if not more, important when it comes to making a difference to the daily lives of people across my Llanelli constituency.

Whether it is providing advice on family or financial worries, dealing with long running issues affecting our communities or simply pointing people in the right direction to more specialist help, my team and I will do everything we can to make people’s lives easier, more affordable and less stressful.

A good example of this is a community drop-in event that I organised in Saron Hall, Bynea last week bringing together several local and national organisations in one place that help older people access support with the cost of living, housing, Pension Credit, other financial help plus much else besides.

Representatives from Carmarthenshire County Council, Carmarthenshire Citizens Advice, Age Cymru Dyfed, Llesiant Delta Wellbeing, The Wallich and Care & Repair Carmarthenshire were on hand to speak with people on a one-to-one basis.

I have hosted a number of similar events around Llanelli and they normally prove to be popular and well attended.  I also carry out regular advice surgeries both in person and via phone or online.

Throughout each year, my team and I deal with thousands of individual cases on a wide range of subjects from policing to pensions, schools to energy bills.  If you have any concerns you would like to raise with me or see if I can be of any help with, then please get in touch either by e-mail at nia.griffith.mp@parliament.uk or phone on 01554 756374.
