Last week I visited the Sessile Oak where men in Carmarthenshire who have had a stroke meet once a month, and this gives them an opportunity to talk, discuss experiences and offer encouragement to each other on the road to recovery.
Suffering a stroke is often a devastating experience for the patient and their family, with far-reaching consequences for work and home life, and often something that men in particular find difficult to talk about.
It was sobering to hear about the impact and effects of a stroke on the men, and impressive to see their determination to regain their faculties…… such as literally having to re-learn each individual movement to learn to walk again. I wish them all the best on their road to recovery.
