Home > News > Change has begun. Building a Britain that belongs to you – Keir Starmer’s Conference Speech.

Yesterday, at Labour Party conference, Keir Starmer confirmed this government will be one of national renewal, breaking down barriers, building the infrastructure we need and mending public services.

Just because our country isn’t working doesn’t mean it can’t be fixed. For 14 years, the Tories ducked difficult decisions and ran down public services. Labour will deliver for working people and show that politics can change lives.

He underlined his commitment to:

?Action on knife crime and more neighbourhood police on our streets.

? Rebuilding public services, with more teachers in our schools and more operations taking place in our NHS.

? A real living wage, a modern industrial strategy and the biggest levelling-up of workers’ rights in a generation.

? Providing homes for all veterans, victims of domestic violence and young care leavers in housing need.

? Bringing in a “Hillsborough Law” – a duty of candour on all public authorities and public servants to prevent a repeat of the injustices suffered by victims of the Hillsborough disaster and Horizon, Infected Blood, Grenfell Tower and other scandals.
