Home > News > Stressing need for round the clock Minor Injuries Unit at Prince Philip Hospital

Many thanks to those who have alerted me to Heath Board discussions about night-time opening of the Minor Injuries Unit. I have spoken to the Chief Executive, who said there are several different options being discussed reducing night-time opening.

I stressed how extremely concerning it is that it is proving so difficult to staff this unit, and I very strongly urged him to make every effort possible to find the necessary doctors to keep the unit open 24/7.

I told him that we in Llanelli are very concerned indeed at any reduction in opening times, and I stressed how important it is to have an easily accessible service available locally.

Furthermore, I pointed out that any loss of service here will only exacerbate problems at Glangwili and Morriston, where we know that there is already pressure on A & E services.

I have followed up, asking for an update, and if I do not hear shortly, I will chase again.

If I get any news, I will update people on social media and here on my website.

NB The Chief Exec assured me that the above discussions do not affect the Acute Medical Assessment Unit (AMAU) where the ambulances take people, which is operational 24/7.
