Home > News > Broken promises on animal welfare a real setback

I was disappointed the Tories dropped the Kept Animals Bill. The decision was not what the public, our dedicated animal welfare charities or I wanted.

It represented a profound setback for animal welfare in the UK.

We need urgent action to stop puppy and kitten smuggling, ear cropping of dogs and other forms of animal abuse and mutilation, as well as bans on the import and sale of fur, live animal exports for fattening or slaughter and much more.

I met with campaigners in Parliament this morning to support them in calling on the UK Government to use the forthcoming King’s Speech to reverse their broken promises on this.
