The cost of living crisis keeps on getting worse.

I have spoken to so many people across Llanelli who are scared about how they’ll get through the winter, not knowing whether they will be able to pay their bills or use gas and electricity when they really need it.

We are now in a national economic emergency, but the only response from the missing in action Tory UK Government so far, is to put the profits of oil and gas giants before hard working, local families.

Earlier this week, Labour published a detailed £29bn plan to stop bills going up this winter, typically saving households £1,000, paid for by taxing oil and gas producers who are making record profits.

This will also help to bring inflation down by 4%, making interest rate rises less likely and easing the burden further on households and businesses.

It is important to make sure bills come down in the long term, too.  That is why the plan promises to invest more in sustainable, British, energy sources that mean we won’t have to rely on expensive, imported fossil fuels. More investment is also allocated to insulate millions more homes, reducing the amount of energy we need and saving even more money off bills.

The fact is that the Conservatives have lost control of the economy, and working people are now paying the price.  We’ve had 12 years of a government that has failed to secure our energy supplies, leaving bills higher and our country less secure.

The Labour plan put forward this week would stop bills rising now and create sustainable energy for the future – helping people get through the winter while providing the foundations for a stronger, more secure economy.
