Continuing the campaign for Equitable Life victims, I have just been in a meeting with Treasury Minister John Glenn MP to spell out to him the need to compensate Equitable Life victims properly.
The Government must stop hiding behind the excuse of the state of public finances…… we are ten years on from the banking crisis and the economy is picking up and the Government should compensate people who planned and saved responsibly for retirement with Equitable Life, as it was a catastrophic failure of government regulation that let them down.
I stressed to the Minister the need to reconsider the issue as a matter of urgency. How can we expect people to save responsibly if situations like this are not sorted out?
