Nia continues to press UK Government on help for our steel industry
Nia Griffith MP met steel workers from across Wales on Wednesday this week as they demonstrated outside Parliament. This meeting took place shortly after Parliament’s Welsh questions session during which Nia, as Shadow Welsh Secretary, once again pressed Government ministers on support for the steel industry. Referring to the talks taking place in Mumbai between Tata and potential purchasers of the industry, Nia said “The terms of the package the Government proposes will be crucial to any potential deal so can the Minister confirm that his Government will do everything it takes to secure a successful future for our steel industry?”
Talking outside afterwards, Nia said, “I am really pleased to see steel workers here today from right across Wales, Shotton, Llanwern, Orb, Port Talbot and of course Trostre, because I think it is absolutely vital that we continue to keep up the pressure on the UK Government to translate their warm words into real action with hard cash on the table – both in the short term to secure a deal now and in the long term to provide the right conditions for the steel industry to thrive in the UK.”
