KeirSir Keir Starmer MP was the guest speaker at a recent dinner held in the Ashburnham Hotel Pembrey to raise funds for the Llanelli Constituency Labour Party to use in the Assembly election campaign next year.

Before becoming a Labour MP in the general election earlier this year,  Sir Keir was the Director of Public Prosecutions, following a distinguished career as a lawyer with a special interest in human rights and working to end the death penalty in former British colonies where it still existed. Probably his most famous case is the so-called McLibel case, in which he defended two environmental activists against McDonalds, a real David and Goliath case which his clients, the environmentalists, finally won in the European Court of Human Rights.

At the Ashburnham Sir Keir gave a very entertaining speech, including an intriguing tale of a fraudster who stole his identity and used it on a dating agency! A great evening.
