Young apprentices Shaun and Tommy Lee from Llanelli visited the Houses of Parliament today in order to a special award ceremony, as two of just 15 finalists from the whole of the UK in the Young Builder of the Year Awards, organised by Youthbuild UK. During the ceremony both Shaun and Tommy received certificates of commendation. They are both currently working four days a week with Lloyd and Gravell on Carmarthenshire County Council’s housing refurbishment scheme, whilst spending one day a week studying for their level three plumbing qualification at Coleg Sir Gar in Ammanford.
Nia Griffith MP, who met them on the terrace of the House of Commons for the award ceremony, said:
“Congratulations to Tommy and Shaun for this outstanding achievement. We are talking about being in the top 15 from the whole of the UK. I know that education has not been quite as straightforward for them as for some young people, but that they have shown real determination and are now in their fourth year at Coleg Sir Gar. In spite of all the changes in new technology, we are always going to need plumbers and I wish them every success in the future.”
