Commenting on plans to centralise heart services at Glangwili, Nia Griffith MP said,
“Sending patients on a detour from PPH to Glangwili, and then transferring them to Morriston is crazy, when from Llanelli they could be in Morriston sooner than they would get to Glangwili. If we are forced to lose expertise from Prince Philip Hospital, then heart patients should go straight to Morriston, where the full range of expert treatments are immediately to hand. Whilst it might make sense for patients from Bronglais or Withybush to call in at Glangwili on the way to Morriston, it makes absolutely no sense for patients from Llanelli. Furthermore routine and follow – up cardiac appointments must continue to be readily available at PPH to serve the largest concentration of population in the Hywel Dda area close to home. I am contacting the Hywel Dda Health Board as a matter of urgency on these issues.”
