Nia meets Adam Cousins, Chair of Carmarthenshire Youth Council, Rhys form Milford and Ryan Davies, who gave an impressive speech from the dispatch box.

Ryan Davies of Bryngwyn School Llanelli stood at the dispatch box in the House of Commons today to give the opening speech in the Youth Parliament’s debate on youth unemployment. He stressed the need for good careers advice, the value of meaningful work experience placements and called for an increase in the number of apprenticeships available for young people. He pointed out that the UK Government’s recent figures for new apprenticeships mostly referred to posts that had gone to the over25s.

Nia Griffith MP, Shadow Wales Minister who greeted the Members of the Youth Parliament from Wales and heard Ryan speaking, commented

“ It is no wonder that Ryan was selected to lead the debate at the dispatch box. He was absolutely outstanding. He spoke so clearly, making his points decisively and with conviction. He told us beforehand that he was nervous, but you would never have guessed; he came over with real poise. Definitely a future MP or even prime minister in the making.”
