Nia Griffith MP has put in a question to the Hywel Dda Health Board for their meeting on 24th May, asking about what they are doing to prevent people being discharged during the night. This follows nationwide concerns about vulnerable people being discharged at night when it is difficult to contact family members and there is no public transport available, and is a particular problem locally when patients from Llanelli are left to find their own way home from West Wales hospital on the far side of Carmarthen.
She has also asked about the future provision of transport for patients and their visitors from Llanelli to Glangwili.
“Health Board members have publically acknowledged that there are serious concerns about lack of transport, but now we need some clear plans to ensure that vulnerable people are not left stranded miles from home in the middle of the night. We also need to tackle the lack of joined up transport for patients and visitors making regular journeys from Llanelli to Glangwili.”
