Home > News > Hope for former play area in Kidwelly

Thanks to residents of Rhodfa’r Gwendraeth, Clos yr Onnen, Clos y Dderwen and Clos y Celyn for speaking up today about the former “park” area behind their houses at a meeting Kidwelly Mayor Cllr Phil Thompson and I called.

It has taken a long time to find out what exactly happened to this land. As some residents will remember, in order to meet planning conditions, the developers created this space and provided play equipment, but we have recently received confirmation that not only did the County Council never take over ownership of the land, but they now do not intend to do so.

Whilst residents have understandably felt let down by the County Council, they are anxious to see progress, so the meeting agreed that the way forward would be to approach Town Council to take over the land. Richard Williams of the Tycroes Group offered to look at clearing the land, once Town Council had agreed to undertake the on-going maintenance.

Volunteers agreed to form an action committee to consider options such as installing play equipment, and anyone else who wants to join that, please let me know by emailing nia.griffith.mp@parliament.uk
