Home > News > Backing presumed consent for organ donation across the UK

I am usually back in Llanelli on Fridays but today was one of the Fridays in the year when private members’ bills are discussed and so I was there to make sure that we had enough supportive MPs to back Labour MP Geoffrey Robinson’s bill to extend the principle of presumed consent in organ donation to England. As you may know, this is already the case in Wales, where our Welsh Labour Government has led the way.

Yesterday evening we heard some very moving stories from doctors and people whose family members have been affected by organ donation, lack of organs or who have taken the decision on donation following the tragic death of a loved one, and today, I’m pleased to say the bill passed its second reading.
