Nia Griffith MP, Labour’s Shadow Welsh Secretary, responding to the publication of the Wales Bill, said:

“Labour welcomes the publication of the Wales Bill and we look forward to scrutinising it in detail. As the party that set up the Assembly we want to see our devolution settlement strengthened with more powers being devolved from Westminster to Wales.

“Earlier this year I made clear that Labour would not support a bill that took powers away from Wales and made it harder for our Assembly to do its job. I’m pleased that the Welsh Secretary appears to have listened to the valid criticism that was made of the draft Wales Bill and that he has brought forward a fresh piece of legislation.

“We all want to see a Welsh devolution settlement that is clear, workable and lasting. I sincerely hope that this bill will allow us to achieve those aims.”
