Schaeffler (still known as INA bearings to many) has just celebrated 60 years of being in Llanelli. To celebrate the occasion, Welsh Government Minister Edwina Hart MBE OStJ AM, was invited to the Bynea site together with other guests including representatives from Schaeffler Germany, the Automotive Forum, Nia Griffith MP, local civic dignitaries, Coleg Sir Gar and pupils from Glanymor school who have been involved in a project with Schaeffler to encourage more young people to go into engineering.

In her address, the Minister stressed the importance of manufacturing in Wales, before unveiling a commemorative hi-tech sculpture. Cor Meibion Llanelli then treated the audience to song, before they were taken on a tour of the factory.

Commenting on the event, Nia Griffith MP said,

“I’d like to congratulate the Managing Director of Schaeffler Roger Evans and his staff for the way they have kept this factory at the forefront of what is a very competitive, cut-throat industry. It was fascinating to see both the state of the art, hi-tech production lines and the strong emphasis on staff development and team work that have got them where they are. It was particularly encouraging to see how apprentices progress to positions of responsibility, and the links Schaeffler have developed with schools to encourage more young people into engineering.”
