I discussed Trump’s very worrying plans to impose tariffs on steel imports last night on BBC Radio 4’s Westminster Hour.
Listen from 38 mins in to hear me demand that Liam Fox pulls out all the stops to persuade Trump to abandon this plan, which could have a seriously damaging effect on the UK’s steel industry as we sell 15% of our exports to the US.
I’m also concerned that we could find steel originally destined for the US shut out by tariffs and dumped here in Europe, and that our position to negotiate with America will be hindered by the Government’s reckless decision to rule out a customs union with the EU.
