We were very lucky with the weather last week when I attended the very fitting service for the unveiling of the Iraq Afghanistan Memorial by HM the Queen.
This Memorial is in Victoria Embankment Gardens, and commemorates the contribution of both Armed Forces personnel and civilians who served in the Gulf region, Iraq and Afghanistan during the 25 years from 1990 to 2015. It honours all those who served whether in a military or civilian role, including areas such as aid distribution, infrastructure, governance, education and healthcare, with one side of the monument portraying the military effort and the other the civilian effort.
