Nia Griffith MP has written to UK Government ministers to urge them to give the go-ahead for the Swansea Bay Tidal Lagoon, following the publication of the review by former energy minister Charles Hendry into the viability of the project.

Commenting on the review, Nia Griffith said, “I would like to congratulate Charles Hendry on his very thorough review into the Tidal Lagoon project, and I am urging to Government to take heed of his conclusions. This means not only giving the go-ahead for the lagoon, but also investing in our steel industry to ensure that we in the UK can take full advantage of the opportunities to manufacture components for the lagoon. It’s high time now for the UK Government to stop dithering about this and give the go-ahead, not least because of the added kudos and export opportunities that will arise from this being a world first. I know there is a genuine commitment from the company involved to encourage local firms to bid for contracts to supply components for the lagoon.”
