GurkhasNia Griffith MP joined the Llanelli Gurkhas on Saturday night at the Royal Naval Club where they were celebrating 200 years of Gurkha service to the British Crown. They also used the occasion to present a cheque to the Red Cross to be used for the Nepalese Earthquake Appeal.

Speaking at the event, Nia Griffith said,

“This evening, on the occasion of Gurkha 200, we are celebrating the tremendous service that Gurkhas have given to the British Crown, since the first 5,000 Gurkhas were signed up for the British army back in 1815. They are renowned for their exceptional bravery and unstinting loyalty, and have taken part in every major conflict since 1815. Here in Llanelli, they have made a very welcome and significant contribution to the community since they first came to settle here some years ago, and I know that they are also key players in the Royal Naval Club. This evening they are also presenting a very generous donation of £3,600 to the Red Cross to be used for the Nepalese Earthquake Appeal. It is a great honour for me to be invited to share in their celebration this evening.”
