Plans to enhance Llanelli Station took a step forward when Ian Messner of Network Rail and Geraint Morgan of Arriva Trains Wales came to Llanelli Station. They were there to meet volunteers who had previously attended a meeting called by Nia Griffith MP about making our station a place to be proud of.

Mr Morgan and Mr Messner explained to the group what sort of enhancement is considered practicable and how to go about obtaining the necessary permissions and support.

John Wyn Hopkins and Lyn John from Llanelli Community Heritage brought along an example of their information boards, as they would like to prepare boards to be installed at the station.

Nia Griffith MP explained

“We will still be pressing vigorously for major investment at the station, but in the meantime, there are plenty of ways that as local volunteers we can enhance the station’s appearance which can dovetail in with future improvement plans.”

Rather than set up a new group to adopt the station, it has been decided to take up the offer of Charles Watson, who chairs the local Environment and Regeneration Action Group, to bring the station volunteers under the umbrella of that organisation, with Suzy Curry acting as the coordinator for the work on the station. We will be drawing up a vision for improvements to the station that will then be sent to the Network Rail and Arriva representatives for their comment and approval.
