Mr Leslie Jones, who moved to Llwynhendy some three years ago, has shared with Nia Griffith MP the special volumes of work that he has compiled to commemorate the First World War.

Mr Jones who takes great pride in his work explained, “I have been able to access the information from the internet and from a CD-Rom which contains the records of those killed in the First World War. I have found over 600 from the Llanelli area. To each one I have devoted a page with their name, any available details of their parents and their address and a picture of the cemetery where the individual is buried. I have also produced a diary of the War, recording events in chronological order. I am now working on similar volumes for other areas of Wales. My hope is that the Llanelli books can be displayed locally. I would like to see them in Parc Howard.”

Nia Griffith MP, “I am arranging for Mr Jones to meet someone from Carmarthenshire County Council museum service to discuss his suggestion. With next year being the centenary of the beginning of World War One, it is very important that we should commemorate those who lost their lives in that terrible war. It may be possible to combine acknowledgement of Mr Jones’ work with other events that are planned.”
