Nia with Dr Brian May at a cross party meeting of MPs discussing how to put pressure on the government, not just to postpone, but to abandon, the badger cull.

Nia Griffith MP has called on government ministers to concentrate on the measures needed to roll out the vaccination of cattle against TB, and has joined with other MPs to vote against a cull.

Nia explained

“ With the DIVA test now able to distinguish between vaccinated cattle and sick animals, a vaccination programme is within grasp, and the government should concentrate its efforts on working with  EU colleagues to get the vaccination of cattle up and running as soon as possible, to eradicate the terrible scourge of TB in cattle, and its devastating effects on farming families. Whilst I welcome the Government’s decision to postpone the badger cull in England, ministers should now listen to the scientists, and abandon the cull altogether. Here in Wales, I am glad that since Labour have taken control in the Welsh Government, the minister John Griffiths AM has opted to try out badger vaccination, but in the long run cattle vaccination is the answer. “
