Parents Mr and Mrs Rees and Helen Martin with students Jessica Rees, Zoe Jones and Hannah Martin furious they cannot catch an almost empty college bus.

Nia Griffith MP for Llanelli is calling on Coleg Sir Gar to allow students living within the 3 mile free transport limit to be allowed to use the college coaches.

Nia Griffith said “Students who have to pay £5.20 a day on service buses to get to the Graig Campus, see half empty college coaches passing while they wait to catch a bus. They are angry they did not know about the ending of free transport for those living within a 3 mile radius of the college when they chose Coleg Sir Gar. Otherwise they would have seriously considered the cheaper option of going to Gower College in Gorseinon which provides a bus for £90 a term. I have arranged an urgent meeting with Coleg Sir Gar managers to discuss realistic solutions. Everyone realises money is tight, but a modest charge for these students to use the empty places on the college coaches would benefit students and help the college pay for the coaches. If something is not done, as winter comes on, we could see students dropping out or missing classes because they simply cannot afford £30 a week, and you cannot expect them to walk six miles a day with heavy bags in lashing rain. ”
