Keith Davies AM and Kidwelly Town Councillor Ryan Thomas at Kidwelly Station

Nia Griffith MP has reacted angrily to what she says is a complacent reply to her from Arriva Trains Wales who are ignoring the needs of Kidwelly commuters when deciding  which stations their trains will stop at.

Nia has written to Arriva Trains to complain about changes to the timetable which have caused uproar amongst Kidwelly commuters who want to get home from their  jobs in Swansea and elsewhere.

Commenting on the reply, Nia Griffith  said:

“The absurd thing about this is that these trains will be  going through Kidwelly anyway, but they will not stop.  These trains should be serving local people. What is the point of shaving minutes off  the overall  journey time, if passengers are unable to use the trains because they do not stop at local stations? We should be encouraging people to use the train, and one of the main reasons that puts people off is the infrequency of the trains that stop at stations like Kidwelly. I want to see all the passenger trains that go through Kidwelly actually timetabled to stop there, even if only as a request stop. I will now be taking this up with the transport Minister in the in-coming Assembly government.”
