This week with the switch-on of the Christmas lights makes us really feel that Christmas is on its way. We have seen the transformation in a matter of a couple of weeks from a pleasantly mild and dry Autumn to the turning back of the clocks and a wet and wintry feel. We still have a very strong sense of community here in Llanelli, and it was great to see the crowds out again last Friday evening for the lights, and a good crowd makes it all worthwhile for the many people who put in the hours to make sure that everything goes well on the night. I know that many of you will also be attending more local events in your own area, be that Dafen or Seaside, Hendy or Burry Port, and I hope they all go off well.
But the wet weather has again left some people struggling to clear up the aftermath of flooding, which has devastated their homes. Although there has been some considerable improvement work done to protect properties in some areas, there are still too many people living in fear that every time it rains that their homes might be flooded. No-one should have to live like that, which is why I will continue to put pressure on the relevant authorities, the County Council, Welsh Water and the Environment Agency to work together to provide lasting solutions to the problems, and press for sensible planning policies, which ensure that the necessary infrastructure is in place before planning permission is granted.
